Her Attacker Had Done This Before. Justice Knew His Name.
A young French mother was lured into an apartment, raped, and threatened with mutilation. She escaped by climbing barefoot from the seventh floor balcony to balcony. Her attacker had done this before.
After being held captive and raped, a young French mother escaped by climbing barefoot from the seventh floor in a Paris suburb.
A young woman was approached on the street in Pantin – a working-class suburb located just northeast of Paris in the Seine-Saint-Denis department (93), an area known for its high crime rates, dense immigrant population, and frequent urban violence – by an elderly woman who asked for help carrying her groceries up to her apartment.
Once inside the elderly woman’s seventh-floor apartment, the victim was locked in. There, the owner’s fifty-year-old son was waiting. The man forcibly took her into a bedroom and raped her, subjecting her to non-consensual vaginal penetration without a condom.
The victim begged him to let her go, explaining that she was a mother of a young child. He refused, saying he was “going to do it again,” and threatened that if she continued asking to leave, he would “cut off her nipples” – just as he had done to his ex-partner.
Held captive and terrified but determined to survive, the victim asked to step onto the balcony for air. In an extraordinary act of courage, she escaped from the 7th floor by climbing from balcony to balcony, wearing only socks, until she reached a neighbor’s apartment on the 5th floor, where she found refuge and called for help.
The neighbor immediately alerted the police. Officers from the CSI 93, a specialized departmental unit trained for high-risk urban interventions in Seine-Saint-Denis, and the BAC de Pantin, a rapid-response anti-crime squad, arrived quickly. They positioned teams on both the fifth and seventh floors, took statements from the neighbor and the victim, located the suspect, and arrested him in the apartment.
Investigators quickly determined that the suspect’s mother had allegedly participated in luring the victim to the apartment under a false pretext. After the victim’s escape, the mother even went to the neighbor’s door and said, “Madam, you forgot your shoes.” The neighbor refused to open the door.
The suspect has an extensive criminal history, including prior rapes, domestic violence, death threats, and violence against family members. He once assaulted an 81-year-old man who had hidden in a garbage room to escape his attacks. His mother has also previously appeared in cases involving complicity in rapes alongside her son.
This case is part of a broader and well-documented pattern of sexual violence in France and parts of Europe, particularly in certain suburban “banlieues” like Seine-Saint-Denis. The department consistently records some of the highest rates of violent crime and sexual assaults in the country.
France as a whole has seen a sharp increase in reported rapes over the past decades, with authorities estimating tens of thousands of incidents annually. Many such cases in high-immigration urban zones involve repeat offenders and highlight ongoing challenges with integration, recidivism, and public safety in sensitive neighborhoods.
